A varying number of transfer students
can be accommodated in both the fall and spring semesters.
The credentials required for entrance consideration consist of the transfer application for admission, letters of recommendation, a letter detailing the reasons for transfer, transcripts from all previous colleges and universities attended, and a statement of good standing.
Please explore
the Frequently Asked Questions section for more
information regarding transfer credentials.
Prospective transfer students should also authorize the release of their secondary school records to Allegheny and ensure that standardized test results (SAT I and/or ACT) are forwarded to Allegheny either by the testing organization or by the secondary school. A conference with a member of the admissions staff may be valuable to the transfer candidate and is strongly encouraged. Fill out this form to receive more information from Allegheny.
Applications for fall entrance should by submitted by July 1; Spring Semester applications should be submitted by November 1. Notification of admissions action will be sent as soon as possible after the credentials become complete.
Transfer students who elect to matriculate at Allegheny because of the advantages offered by cooperative programs with other institutions and by study-abroad programs should be aware that acceptance into those programs usually requires an extended period of resident academic work at the College.
If you have specific questions regarding Transfer Admission, please contact Sarah Holt in the Admissions Office at 1 (800) 521-5293 or via e-mail

“I came to Allegheny College from a University where I felt like a small fish in a large sea. I was one of 200 students in all of my classes. Unhappy with my environment, I knew Allegheny would offer me a better education with more personal attention.
Since my transfer I have become very involved on campus. Small, Intimate classes have allowed me to form close relationships with my professors. I have completed summer research in the Biochemistry field for one professor, I currently TA for another and also Peer Lead for my advisor. Along with these opportunities, Allegheny's ACCEL program aided me in finding a summer internship with the Allegheny County Coroner's Office.
After this year, I plan on attending Graduate School for Biomedical Research or Forensic Science. With the education, lab experience and leadership skills Allegheny has provided me, I am more than confident in my ability to be successful in my future education.”

“After my first two semesters of college at a large University I knew that I had to change some things if I was going to both succeed in College and enjoy myself at the same time. Classes that were too big, professors swamped by too many students, and an absence of a truly devoted liberal-arts staff motivated me to begin the search for a new college that would allow me to seriously pursue a major other than Communication Arts or one of the sciences with professors who care about cultivating real working relationships with their students.
I'm a senior now, and couldn't be happier as an impending 2006 Allegheny graduate. Allegheny provided me not only a first-class education, but also the opportunity to work with academics as an academic myself. For a student at a liberal arts college there's no opportunity greater than one that challenges you to produce what your professors’ produce, and the Allegheny faculty tirelessly grooms its students for that challenge.
