President Richard CookThe Compass: Student Handbook

From the President,

On behalf of the Dean of Students Office, I am pleased to intro- duce you to the 2007Ð2008 edition of The Compass. A valuable resource full of practical information, this handbook provides an array of information on offices, people, activities, and services here at Allegheny. It also includes policies and regulations that frame how we learn and live in a scholarly residential com- munity. I encourage you to review this handbook now so youÕll know where to find information when you need it.

Allegheny is a very special place. I know of no other college that has the combination of academic challenge, caring support, and opportunity for participation that Allegheny has. These qualities are consistently reaffirmed by students, faculty, and alumni.

Allegheny provides the opportunities but, to benefit, you must seize them. This applies to academics, experiential learning, student organizations, spiritual life, sports, and a vast array of other possibilities. We will do our part, and I'm confident that you will do yours. If you stretch beyond what you may think are your limits, youÕll be amazed at what you can do.

Welcome to new and returning students. I look forward to seeing you on campus.

Sincerely,
Richard J. Cook
